Art 241: Printmaking

Professor: Ellen
Printmaking is another form of design, I feel that it involve more intense labor and helps people view things in a way to help them develop a perspective that could help in their future.

This print I did was based on a theme of "everyday life" using the practice of Aquatinting. I created 4 in addition to one used in this series.
The process was quite long before getting to the ink and the press; therefore, after eons etching with an etching tool, it then had to sit in acid for 8-10 minutes so the etching lines become deeper and are able to hold the ink in. After that, I misted black spray paint on the zinc plate. Next, I shellacked the areas that were to be different values of grey or going to be white toned areas. After shellacking it has to be put into the acid for about 1-4 minutes. Lastly, I pulled some prints to see how it turned out.

Note:The acid times and shellacking varies on the design and acid content.

(As shown, the images are on two different sides, that is because in printmaking the images mirror themselves onto the paper when pressed or carved/etched.)
